ABOUT HUGO BLANCO
LIMA -- Guerrilla fi¢hters in the Valle de la Concepcion, led ty _ the young revolutionist Hugo Blanco, who publicly declared himself to be a Trotskyist and a member of the Fourth International in an interview granted to a Lima daily paper some time aro, have recently been broadeninc the scope of their operations.
At the end of October, as a demonstration in behalf of the Cuban Revolution when Kennedy was threatening nuclear war, liugo Blanco led @ march of 5,000 canp2sinos from villares in the Andes into Cuzco. They occupied this important city for a few hours before withdrawinc.
At the beginninc of November, some 500 fishters of Hugo blanco’s forces stormed and conquered a local police commissary, capturin™ arms and ammunition.
Since then, the military junta which seized power in Peru bes sent several regiments into the rezion armed with airplanes and helicopters sup-lied by the U.S. But thanks to widespread support among the peasant communities of the descendants of the Inens, fHiugo Bianco's guerrilla fighters have evaded capture wp to row.
Hugo Blanco is immensely populor in Peru today and his fame 1s a harp igg young revolutionary leader is spreading throughout Latin _ America.
At the beginninz of January, a Chilean Communist party manazine "“Vistazo," which "distinguished" itself not so long aco by its scurrilous attacks against Trotskyism, felt forced to print a twoepase article about the guerrilla struggle led by Huco Dlanco in Peru. "Vistazo” admitted without comment that Hugo Blanco is a Trotslcyist.
The organ of the Communist Youth of Italy "Nuova Generazione"™ recently devoted its entire first page to an enornous photosranh of llugo Blanco.
