He faces three years in prison because of a letter he wrote last year against the drumhead trial of Julian Grimau who was later executed. The charge against Carlos Alvarez was issuance of "illegal propaganda."

‘Besides this sentence, Carlos Alvarez faces a new trial before a military courtmartial for the same offense.
